At Ferbeco, we specialise in concrete works — but within that field, one discipline stands out as particularly demanding: industrial concrete floors.
An industrial floor must withstand heavy loading for years on end, without cracking or wear. Preparation and installation require craftsmanship, technical precision and years of experience.
What makes an industrial concrete floor different?
An industrial concrete floor is put under considerable strain every day — think forklifts, racking systems, heavy machinery and intensive traffic. This demands high-quality concrete, a perfectly prepared substrate and precise execution.
Ferbeco combines technical knowledge with hands-on experience to deliver floors that meet the most stringent requirements for strength, flatness and durability.
What to consider with industrial concrete floors?
- The substrate
A strong floor starts with a stable base. The substrate is carefully levelled and compacted to prevent settlement. For larger surface areas, a concrete foundation or stabilisation layer is often recommended.
- Concrete mix design
The quality of the concrete determines the service life of the floor. Ferbeco uses concrete mixes with high compressive strength (minimum C30/37), selected to match the anticipated loading. By specifying the correct reinforcement or steel fibre reinforcement, the surface remains stress-free and crack-resistant.
- Thickness and reinforcement
Depending on the intended use, the thickness of industrial floors typically ranges between 15 and 25 centimetres.
- Light loading → 15 cm
- Heavy machinery or intensive traffic → 20–25 cm with steel fibres or double mesh reinforcement.
The positioning of joints is also critical: they accommodate expansion and shrinkage, preventing unwanted cracking.
- The finish
An industrial floor must not only be strong, but also flat and wear-resistant. Ferbeco uses power floats for a smooth finish and can optionally apply a surface hardener or dust-proof coating. This keeps the floor looking good for longer, whilst remaining easy to maintain and safe to use.
- Site conditions
When pouring and finishing concrete, timing is everything. Temperature, humidity and wind can all affect the final result.
Ferbeco therefore monitors every site closely to ensure optimum curing conditions.
Durability and maintenance
A well-executed industrial concrete floor will last for decades. That said, maintenance remains important:
- Regular cleaning prevents wear caused by grit and dirt.
- Checking joints and seams prevents moisture ingress.
- Any damage or cracks can be repaired quickly.
With periodic maintenance, your floor remains safe, level and strong.
